Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Stack two slices of bread onto a cutting board. Use a serrated knife to trim the crusts and cut the slices in half. Repeat with all slices, keeping matching top and bottom pieces stacked together.

Arrange the stacked pieces onto a baking sheet. Take the top pieces and move them onto the other baking sheet (or any other clean surface) in the same arrangement.

With your butter knife, spread the butter/coconut oil onto each slice of bread.

Flip the bottom pieces so that the buttered side is touching the baking sheet, and sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly on top.

With their buttered side still facing up, place the top pieces on top of their matching bottom pieces.

Put the second baking sheet on top of the one with the grilled cheese sandwiches, and bake the sandwiches for 15 minutes, or until most of the cheese has melted.

Football Decoration

Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese onto the sandwiches to make football laces, and bake for another 5 minutes.

Carefully slide the grilled cheese sandwiches onto a cutting board and cut out a football shape using a serrated knife.

Notes

  • Try stacking several bread slices, and cutting them all at once to save time.
  • For the cheese, I used Daiya cheddar and mozzarella shreds.
  • Cut the mozzarella shreds into smaller bits to make it easier to use when decorating.
  • Serve the grilled cheese sandwiches with some "Hearty" Tomato Soup.
